Homelessness
Many of our members have specific concerns about homelessness, both in Edinburgh and further afield. Although there are many roots to homelessness, one of the problems that the newly homeless face is knowing where they can find simple things like food, clothing, and medical advice. Because we know of no one good source for this information, we maintain a leaflet that can be printed and handed out. It isn’t specific to Morningside, and could be used anywhere in central Edinburgh. We hope to add it to the website soon.
As well as maintaining the leaflet, Christ Church holds a yearly collection of goods for Fresh Start, a charity that helps homeless people resettle in the community. We also regularly solicit donations for St Catharine’s, which provides meals for the homeless as well as other kinds of support.
Our next collection of goods for Fresh Start will be on Sunday 17th January 2010. On Sunday 24 January 2010 the theme of our 10.00 a.m. Sung Eucharist will be Homelessness and Mr Andy Murray of Bethany Christian Trust will be the guest preacher. The service will be followed by a Faith in Dialogue session in the Church Centre, providing further opportunity for discussion, reflection and action on homelessness.
