The local area
Christ Church Morningside is situated at at the northern end of Morningside Road in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Our immediate locality is known as “Holy Corner”. The name Holy Corner derives from the Victorian era when, during the development of this area, a church was built on Morningside Road at each of the four corners of the junction with Colinton Road and Chamberlain Road. Today three of the church buildings are occupied by thriving modern congregations. The fourth is now the Eric Liddell Centre. Although well known to residents and taxi drivers, the name Holy Corner tends not to appear on maps. The traditional name of this area is Burghmuirhead (which includes Church Hill). Holy Corner is where the districts of Morningside, Merchiston, Bruntsfield and Greenhill meet. We are also within easy reach of Blackford, The Braids, Comiston, Craiglockhart, Fairmilehead, Grange, Greenbank, Marchmont, Meadows, and Polwarth. Christ Church serves the local Episcopalian community as well as having a wider membership drawn from other parts of Edinburgh.
