Walking at Christ Church

including yearly programme

Just in case you were wandering(sic), you can expand more than your spiritual horizons at Christ Church. Should you wish to scale the north face of Everest before breakfast, K2 by elevenses and the remainder of the Hindu Khush by teatime, please contact Andrew Lacey. However, for the moderately adventurous, Christ Church also offers a slightly less hectic approach to greeting the great outdoors.

Andrew co-ordinates the A walkers and Jill Gregory and I do the same for the B walkers. It is a group effort and essentially we head off at about 9.30am on a Saturday, walk some miles and head home. How far and how high depends on the time of year and the weather. Winter walks tend to be shorter. You will find details of each group below.

Members of the group take turns to provide walks, although there is no obligation. Walks are often organised by more than one person. We usually walk on the third Saturday in the month with variations in January and December to accommodate Christmas panic and to throw off that New Year lethargy. We usually bring our own lunches but we share transport and contribute to the fuel costs.

Our walks are varied including longer coastal walks and a variety of hill walks. We walk in the Pentlands, the Border Hills, Fife, East, West and Mid Lothian and anywhere else that makes an attractive day out out of the need to breathe some fresh air and take exercise.

Our December walk is on Saturday 15 and is a walk from Dunbar To East Linton on the John Muir Way, first leaving the car at East Linton and hopping onto the bus to Dunbar. We will probably have a pub lunch in East Linton. It’s about 6 miles. A gentle December walk.

Our programme for 2008 is in the magazine. For more information, speak to Jill or me or email bwalkers@6a.org.uk. Hope to see you soon.

Now, I don’t know if the Fair Trade stall has any Fair Trade Kendal Mint Cake for my picnic lunch, but a Geo bar will do nicely……
